Background

When Harpers Brook overflows, floodwaters enter homes, the village hall and doctors surgery, as well as the local sports fields. Just beyond the village lies farmland that could become a natural defence against flooding. By creating a wetland with shallow ponds, and installing ‘leaky dams’, we can hold back excess water when heavy rains come, reducing the risk of devastating floods while giving wildlife a place to thrive. The community is eager to see the land used for flood management and biodiversity.
