Background
This project will ‘rewiggle’ the river back to its natural meandering course, allowing it to flow more slowly and create rich, waterlogged meadows where wildlife can flourish. In addition, we will plant riparian trees along the new riverbanks, creating a carbon-storing, biodiversity-boosting natural habitat.
Why did we choose this project?
This Project:
• Slows floodwaters to reduce the impact on homes & villages
• Creates a thriving habitat for wildlife
• Riparian tree planting – helps to capture carbon, absorb water, while also stabilising the riverbank.
• Restores a historical river so that it will once again meander, just as it was meant to.
