Rewiggling Harpers Brook: Bringing a Lost River Back to Life
Many UK rivers have been artificially straightened to make space for infrastructure and even adapted in the countryside to increase productive farmland. Harpers Brook has in places been adapted into a straight, unnatural path. As a result, water flows much faster with less resistance or natural flood defences, increasing the potential of downstream flooding. This project will ‘rewiggle’ the river back to its natural meandering course, allowing it to flow more slowly and create rich, waterlogged meadows where wildlife can flourish. We will also plant riparian trees along the new riverbanks, creating a carbon-storing, biodiversity-boosting habitat.

Brigstock Wetland Creation
When Harpers Brook overflows, floodwaters enter homes, the village hall and doctors surgery, as well as the local sports fields. This means people lose not just their homes but their community spaces, leaving them without support when they need it most. Just beyond the village lies farmland that could become a natural defence against flooding. By creating a wetland with shallow ponds, and installing ‘leaky dams’, we can hold back excess water when heavy rains come, reducing the risk of devastating floods while giving wildlife a place to thrive. The community is eager to see the land used for flood management and biodiversity.

Water purification with Solar WADI devices in India
Project WADI distributes solar water distillation devices (WADIs) to families in Madhya Pradesh, India, providing access to safe drinking water and reducing reliance on boiling water for purification, thereby cutting CO2 emissions and deforestation. WADI is a solar-powered UV measurement device. It indicates when contaminated water in PET bottles (up to 3L) has been disinfected by the sun's UV radiation and is safe to drink. A smiley face appears on the WADI display when the water is ready.

UNDO spreads crushed wollastonite rock on agricultural land, enhancing soil health while removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through a process called enhanced rock weathering. Enhanced rock weathering is a nature-based carbon removal technology that permanently locks away CO₂ from the atmosphere.
